Hi everyone,
I’m in Hawick and thinking of selling some jewellery — a broken 9ct gold bracelet, an 18ct ring I inherited, and a few silver items I don’t wear anymore. I tried a couple of local jewellers but the offers felt too low.
Can anyone suggest a reliable place nearby that gives fair prices for gold and silver?
I’m in Kelso and had a similar issue with local shops offering low prices. I went to Northern Bullion and it was much better — you visit in person, everything is weighed and tested, and their gold and silver prices are updated daily on the website so you know what to expect.
Auctions really aren’t worth it for broken or scrap jewellery. They take ages to sell and the commission is way too high. It’s much easier to go somewhere local and see your items valued on the spot.
I’m in Edinburgh and have used Northern Bullion a few times. I checked their gold and silver calculator online first to get an idea of value for my 18ct rings and some silver spoons, and the in-person valuation matched perfectly.
Don’t rush into the first offer you get. Seeing your gold and silver tested and weighed in front of you makes a huge difference. I’ve sold some 925 silver chains and coins, a broken 9ct gold bracelet, and even an antique silver sugar bowl at Northern Bullion, and they were completely transparent about pricing compared to local shops.
