Morning everyone,
I’m based in Throckley and hoping for some advice on selling gold jewellery. I’ve got a broken 9ct chain, an old 18ct ring from years ago, and a couple of odd bits that are really only scrap now.
I popped into a local jeweller but the price didn’t feel right at all. I’m not in a rush, just want a fair valuation. Any suggestions locally or nearby?
I’m in the west end of Newcastle and had a similar experience with local shops. I ended up using Northern Bullion.
Sold some scrap gold and an old 18ct bracelet — everything was weighed properly and explained clearly.
I’d avoid auctions unless it’s something special. I tried selling silver jewellery that way once and the fees wiped out a lot of the value. For broken gold or scrap, a bullion buyer usually makes more sense.
I sold a mix of 9ct gold and some old silverware earlier this year. Local jewellers were quick but definitely lower. Northern Bullion felt more transparent and less rushed.
One thing I learned is to check the current gold price before going anywhere. If you’ve got inherited or broken jewellery, it pays to get a proper breakdown rather than just a quick cash offer.
