Hi everyone,
I’m based in Whitburn and hoping for some advice. I’ve got a few items to sell — a broken 9ct gold chain, a couple of 18ct rings, and some silver jewellery that’s no longer worn.
I tried a local jeweller but the offer seemed very low. I’ve also ruled out auctions as I’ve heard they take ages to sell and the commission is high. Any recommendations would be helpful.
I’m not far from Whitburn and had the same experience. I went to Northern Bullion instead and found it much better than the high street. You’re seen in person and their gold and silver prices are updated daily on their website, which helps you know where you stand.
Definitely agree about auctions — I waited weeks to get paid last time and the commission took a big chunk off. For broken jewellery or scrap gold, it’s much better dealing with someone directly on the day.
Before I went in, I checked Northern Bullion’s gold and silver calculator online to get a rough idea of value. When I took my 18ct ring and some old silverware in, the figures were pretty much what I expected.
My advice would be not to rush into the first offer you’re given. Seeing everything tested and weighed in front of you feels far more transparent, and you avoid the long waits and fees that come with auctions.
