7 Tons Of Fly-Tipped Rubbish Cleared From Jaywick Beach By Volounteers

A group of volunteers from the Jaywick Sands Community Forum took it upon themselves to clear up a beach that was covered in rubbish, including furniture and household waste. The residents of Jaywick had been expressing their concerns over the fly-tipping problem in their area, and so the forum decided to collaborate with Tendring Council to clean up the mess.

Bradley Thompson, who is the chairman of the Jaywick Sands Community Forum, said that they approached Dan Casey and Ian Taylor at Tendring Council, who agreed to arrange a rubbish collection if all the rubbish was placed in one location. He also noted that the problem of fly-tipping was caused by a small minority of people in the village who find it easier to dump their rubbish than to take it to the tip.

Many people visit the beach in the summer, and the residents want to ensure that it remains clean and welcoming. Bradley has been attending meetings to discuss ways to reduce fly-tipping in the area and has suggested putting up notices to promote a set of action days. The plan is to arrange for a few skips to be placed in the area where large amounts of rubbish can be removed more regularly.

Dan Casey, Tendring councillor for West Clacton and Jaywick Sands, arranged for the rubbish to be cleared and everything was removed within three days. He also urged residents to come forward with the names of anyone caught fly-tipping to deter others from doing it.
